Whenever Dean Cain criticizes James Gunn’s Superman for “not understanding the character”, I like to remind people that this is what Deathstroke was like on his show.

I think the writers somehow mixed up a description of Dr. Polaris with Slade and didn't care enough to fix it because they cared more about being a romcom with a thin Superman coat of paint than an actual superhero show.
